Mexico sends diplomatic note to U.S. over ambassador’s remarks on proposed judicial reform

MEXICO CITY, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) — Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said on Friday that his administration is sending a diplomatic note to the United States to protest against the U.S. ambassador’s remarks regarding Mexico’s proposed judicial reform.
During his daily press briefing on Friday, Lopez Obrador described the comments of U.S. Ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar, as disrespectful to Mexico’s national sovereignty.
On Thursday, Salazar expressed disagreement with the proposal to elect judges and magistrates in Mexico through direct voting, a key element of the president’s reform, and warned that the reform “poses a risk” to democracy in Mexico.
Lopez Obrador said the United States has long pursued an interventionist policy throughout the Americas, and described the ambassador’s remarks as “unfortunate” and “imprudent.” ■
