    Description

Here is a small cabinet photo of a man in a dark jacket buttoned all the way up to the neck with white shirt collar seen above the coat.  He has dark hair and a serious look on his face.  On the back is written: Cousin Mahlon Lapp.  There is no date or place written on the back and no photographer's mark.  I did some research and found a Mahlon Lap who was born in 1872 in Line Lexington, Pennsylvania, one of 12 children of Samuel & Sarah (Gross) Lapp.  The family then moved to Adams County, Nebraska.  He married Sarah Hahn in 1901, the same year he was ordained as a Mennonite Bishop.  He and his wife went to India serving as missionaries.  Mahlon died in 1923 in The Presidency General Hospital in Calcutta, India.  He was interred in India.  His wife died in Ohio in 1943 and is interred in the Midway Mennonite Church Cemetery in Mahoning County, OH.  Would take more research to prove this was the same Mahlon Lapp, I did find a passport photo online of the above Mahlon Lapp that looks like it could be the same person, but not positivie.  The photo measures about 3 3/8 by 2 7/8 inches and is clear, but does have some marks on it from age and storage.  The cardboard it is mounted on has a stain on it, but is not bent or missing any corners.  Great old photo for anyone tracing the family history of the Lapp family.  Postage will be 3.40 to the U. S.
