    Description

Cabinet card photograph of a ‘robber baron’ by Mrs. W.A. Robinson of New York City, circa 1890s. The bust portrait view, identified on the back as Charles Hines, shows a middle age man with mutton chop side burns and a mustache posing for his likeness in a photographic studio. He looks well groomed and is dressed very nicely. There are a few medals pinned to his vest, but they are partially hidden by his coat and not identifiable. Mrs. W.A. Robinson was the wife of a photographer, William A. Robinson of Chicago and New York, as well as a noted photographer in her own right. This card has a copy of a medal awarded to her in 1890. I believe she did make photographs of some celebrities. I spent some time on the internet trying to pin down who this Charles Hines might be. This photograph came with another of a much younger woman named Maggie Hines, perhaps his daughter. I’m guessing that this gentleman was a wealthy businessman in New York City or maybe Brooklyn. He certainly looks like a Robber Baron! The cabinet card is in good or better condition with only light wear and soiling. The photograph exhibits good or better tonal range and shows good or better detail. A nice cabinet card image!
