Back then when the parents wanted a photo of a baby who is unstable when sitting, they would cover themselves (usually the mom) so they could hold the baby without being seen. Notice how they whited out the area above the baby. And if you look close at the baby’s hands you can see part of the mother’s hands holding her. Great photo for a collector. Taken in the 1800’s.
